Privacy notice for applications
This explains what Dār Haniyyah does with the information you give in the 2027 application form. It is written to meet the requirements of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who is responsible
Dār Haniyyah, Cape Town. Information officer: Mumtaz Sterras (Administrator). Contact: info@darhaniyyah.org or +27 81 297 3842 (WhatsApp only).
What we collect
- About the student: full name, date of birth, gender, previous school or institute, grade or qualification, Qur’anic level, how much has been memorised, and any needs you choose to tell us about.
- About you: your name, whether you are a parent, guardian or the student, your WhatsApp number, email address and suburb, and the names and numbers of the student’s parents.
- Technical: a scrambled (hashed) form of your network address, used only to stop spam. We do not store the address itself.
We do not ask for ID numbers or birth certificate numbers.
Why we collect it
To assess the application, arrange an interview, contact you about the outcome and, if a place is offered, enrol the student. Information about the student’s needs is used only to decide how best to support the student. We do not use your information for marketing and we do not sell it.
Who can see it
Only the Dār Haniyyah admissions team, through a password-protected page. We use trusted service providers to run the form: Cloudflare (website hosting and database), Resend (email) and, for staff alerts, WhatsApp. These providers may process information outside South Africa. Alerts to our staff do not include contact numbers or details about the student’s needs.
How long we keep it
Applications that are not successful are deleted within three months after the intake closes. For students who enrol, we keep the information for as long as the student is enrolled and as required by law.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold, or withdraw your consent, by contacting us using the details above. You may also complain to the Information Regulator at inforeg.org.za.
